Commentary: Spotlighting the St. Louis region’s global connectivity

FreightWeekSTL returned for the fourth consecutive year in late May, still predominantly virtual but with several in-person discussions providing a welcome signal that things are returning to normal after the Covid-19 pandemic year.

Even before a 1,300-foot-long container ship became stuck in the Suez Canal backing up container traffic for weeks this spring, the freight and logistics industry was reeling from the impact of the pandemic, with global supply chain disruptions resulting in delays and higher shipping costs that continue to impact consumers. Those disruptions underscore the importance of having a resilient supply chain and the need for new shipping alternatives that the St. Louis region could deliver as it continues to focus on providing options for shippers.
