A South Carolina developer is pitching a $50 million hangar complex near the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield.
Blackbird Partners said its proposal, The Nest at SUS, calls for eight aircraft hangars that will be for sale instead of lease on 13 acres of vacant land just west of the airport on Olive Street Road. SUS is the airport code for Spirit. Each hangar will be private and custom designed with options for entertainment spaces, boardrooms and other amenities, according to marketing materials from the Greenville-based company.
Blackbird Partners is proposing to build eight aircraft hangars across 13 acres near the Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield. Each of the hangars will be available for sale. Construction on the project, called The Nest at SUS, could start in early 2027.
Another luxury hangar complex called the Spirit Sky Club is under construction north of the Chesterfield airport. Blackbird CEO and co-owner Carson Fox said the Chesterfield airport is ideal for the project due to the available adjacent land, the proximity of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection port of entry and the ability of Spirit to accommodate large- and ultra-long range jets. The company opened a similar facility at the Waukesha County Airport in Wisconsin last year.
